John Seager's 30 for 30: Day 12

A Cunning look back of 30 days which have changed my life over the past 30 years

Day 12:  22nd November 2003 – Time to ‘Rock out!’

Evening all,

Now i have never been the kind of guy ever to go to a music concert or even a festival. I have been put off in the past by seeing images of Glastonbury in the mud. And i have never have or had the opportunity to go to a live gig.

But this opportunity was not going to be turned down, as since i started my second term of university i have been become a huge fan of nu-metal band Linkin Park. Basically i enjoyed listening to their music on my frequent journeys to University in London from my home in Kent. So i decided that i want to see them live when the opportunity comes up and they are in the UK.  oddly enough they were in the UK in November so when tickets came available, i managed to et a couple of tickets.

The concert being held at Wembley Arena on the 22nd November 2003, it was going to be a long day as in the morning, England ruby union side was playing in the rugby world cup final against Australia.

And boy it was a long morning, after the utter delight of seeing England winning the rugby world cup. We headed off to London for the day and to the concert in the evening as well.

The day was spent mostly window shopping on the streets of London – especially oxford street and bond street as it was nice to be back in London for a bit of shopping, even though i could afford to buy anything.

As night fell we managed to get to Wembley Arena for the evening festivities, it was going to be a long evening and probably going to struggle for the last train home as we were not only looking forward to see Linkin Park  but also Lostprophets and Kinesis who were the supporting acts.

Both acts were good warm ups to the set but when Linkin Park wet on set it was totally mesmerising. The energy from the crowd was unbelievable and we kept it up for the whole set which just lasted over 2 hours.

The Linkin Park Set on that night.

After the band finished, i felt totally exhausted and i needed to pinch myself to make sure that i enjoyed the gig. But i couldn’t hang around as it was very late i had to make sure that we were in time to catch the last train home. We made it back to London Victoria Station in with plenty of time to spare.

I spent the journey home wondering that i have learned something new about myself tonight. I felt that i can do music gigs and hopefully i wouldn’t mind doing a festival soon as well.
